Panel Discussion on TV9 - Family Business

TV9 Network hosted a high-impact panel discussion on Family Businesses, in partnership with SAP and Deloitte. The conversation was refreshingly candid, grounded in real founder dilemmas rather than textbook frameworks.

Succession planning emerged as the most debated—and misunderstood—theme.

The panel reinforced a hard truth: succession is not a one-day handover of charge, it is a journey over a decade – a transition of power, roles, and identity. Most family businesses delay it not due to lack of intent, but because it forces uncomfortable conversations—about control, capability, fairness, and legacy.

Two clear patterns stood out.

Some founders remain deeply attached to the business and intend to stay operational till their final years. Others, typically between 60–65, consciously seek a second innings—philanthropy, travel, spiritual pursuits, or simply stepping back. Each mindset demands a very different succession architecture.

I hope these reflections prompt you to pause, reflect, and ask the right questions—before circumstances force them upon you.
